How is my local public library using social media?

Mona Vale library has Facebook and Instagram accounts. The Facebook account provides information about events – for example, The Art of Ageing Photographic Exhibition Launch was held in October, and events at council’s other libraries are also listed. The Facebook account has reviews, photos, videos and posts relating to all northern beaches libraries. The homepage contains a smattering of info, including a review from a happy customer whose “hyper four year old” enjoyed his library visit (wonder how the staff enjoyed his visit?!), promotional pics for upcoming events, new library initiatives, interesting facts and fave old photos shared by the Local Studies team.

The Instagram account is run by the library’s parent company, Northern Beaches Council. It shows picturesque photos of people, places and local flora / fauna showing life on the northern beaches. There are also sections called: Whales, Your Council, Walks, Things to do, and Beaches – none of which I can open as I’m not on Insta.

The council has a Twitter account which is described as “celebrating the unique world of the northern beaches and the way we live.” There is a tweet about an upcoming Queenscliff to Manly walk in support of domestic violence victims, a re tweet from the NSW Rural Fire Service about the state of the current bushfires, and a “Who to follow” list of apparently extra-worthy tweeters.

Northern Beaches Council’s LinkedIn account contains a blurb about the council, including the fact it was formed in 2016 when Manly, Warringah and Pittwater merged. There is also a list of employee profiles and posts about council news – such as the fact that Manly lifeguards saved a man who suffered a seizure while swimming a couple of weeks ago. There’s a Jobs section too, and another section called Life - which details the many joys of working for Northern Beaches Council.
